Puerto Rico (formerly porto rico) is located north east of the caribbean sea. 1600 km southeast of Miami, puerto rico is the smallest island in the greater antilles group. the capital is San Juan, Rio de la plata is the longest river in Puerto Rico.
Ethnic Groups : There are three main main ethnic group that make up the island of Puerto Rico that reflect the heritage of Puerto Rico: the Taino Indians,( most of whom fled or perished after the Spanish conquest; ) black Africans,( imported as slaves under Spanish rule;) and the Spanish themselves. Know there is mixture of Dutch English ,Corsicans, Europeans and Puerto Ricans that contributes to the distinct Hispanic-Afro-Antillean Heritage. As of 1917 Puerto Ricans have been considered US citizens. This was decide at the end of Spanish - American War. Though they are considered US citizen they done pay federal taxes and do not vote in President elections. Most Puerto Ricans still consider themselves as "Puertorriqueños" rather than Americans.
